Well, my first post to my new blog, and as usual with me, it's not going to be roses and puppy dogs.
Jake and I decided to be smart this year and do our Christmas shopping before Thanksgiving. Well, as anyone who has tried to do that knows, it's never over when you think it is. Jake really wants this new game called Rock Band, which is one of the most popular gifts this holiday season, and I feel like Arnold Schwarzenegger in Jingle All the Way, trying to get that elusive Rocket Man doll. I also feel like I have a five-year old in the house because all Jake has been talking about has been Rock Band. See, he likes it because you can play this drum kit, and Guitar Hero (of which we have every game they've put out) just isn't good enough because you can't play drums on that game...
So we found out that it was only coming out for Playstation 3 and XBOX 360, which you probably know are both very expensive. However, later this month, we found out that it was coming out for our system, Playstation 2, and we were both relieved that our wallet wouldn't suffer quite so much (even though Rock Band itself costs $159.99 for all the peripherals and the game). Playstation, however, has decided to make it impossible to get the PS2 version of the game because there was a "shipping error" at every store within 100 miles of us, and the release date has been pushed off and pushed off. So, wanting to solve the problem (and stop Jake from nagging), I decided to let him get a PS3, which currently retails for $399.99 for the 40 GB version, and Rock Band, of course, which costs $169.99 for PS3, for a grand total of around $620. Oh man. It hurts just typing it. Almost a whole paycheck gone for one gift, basically. Now I know how my parents felt. But it's not over yet. I had to get my paycheck early (today) since my payday was supposed to be on Monday, the 24th, which obviously wouldn't work. And through the miracle of modern technology, I've been able to keep track of which Wal-Marts have Ps3 and Rock Band through their website. Yesterday they had loads of each. This morning when I checked, lo and behold, there were no Wal-Marts within a 100-mile radius that had 40 GB PS3's. Fantastic. Thankfully, I was able to find one of the GameStops (of which we have like 9 in one block, for some odd reason) that had both in stock. So Jake is going to buy it today. What a Christmas! I'm glad I didn't want anything like that. We wouldn't have been able to eat otherwise! I'm looking forward to actually getting to enjoy Christmas now instead of scrambling, which we thought we wouldn't have to do this year.
